Kankakee County GIS Web Mapping Imaging Help |
To view the images, your computer needs to have a program able to open TIFF images. By default, your computer should be set up to automatically open the images. Windows XP users should be able to automatically view the TIFF images in the included Windows Picture and Fax Viewer program, while users of older versions of Windows should be able to view the images in Kodak Imaging for Windows by default. If you click on a link to an image and nothing happens, it is possible that your computer is not set up to view TIFF images, or another program is interfering with the viewing of the images. Checking to see if your computer is set up to view TIFF images 1. Go to My Computer 2. Click on 'Tools' in the top menu bar 3. Select 'Folder Options' in the dropdown list 4. Click 'File Types' tab 5. Scroll down the alphabetical list until you see 'TIF' and 'TIFF' as Extensions in the 'Registered File Types' window. 6. Select 'TIF' and then 'TIFF'. Each file type should have a program name next to 'Opens with:'. 7. If neither file type is set you need to change the program used to open 'TIF' and 'TIFF' extensions, you may either click on the 'Change' button and navigate to the image viewer of your choice, or click on the 'Restore' button to restore the default Windows setting. Problems because of QuickTime The QuickTime viewer often interferes with the viewing and printing of the images. To fix this problem, QuickTime needs to be disassociated from TIFF images. 1. Click on the Start button typically in the lower left corner of your screen and click on 'Control Panel'. 2. Double click the QuickTime icon. 3. Click the 'File Types' tab. 4. Click the plus sign next to 'Images - Still Files' 5. Make sure the TIFF box isn't checked. 6. Click 'Apply' and 'OK' and then exit. 7. Close and re-open your browser. If the above steps do not work, try removing QuickTime from your computer: 1. Click on the Start button typically in the lower left corner of your screen and click on 'Control Panel'. 2. Click on 'Add or Remove Programs' 3. Select QuickTime and click the 'Change/Remove' button. Because each computer is set up differently, please note that Kankakee County is unable to provide technical support for problems viewing the images other than the steps described here.
